My IT and learning class is wrapping up. I had allowed the class members to opt between writing a paper on game based learning and participating in a design exercise in which a game to be used in my next networking class would be developed. Quite a number of students opted to choose the design exercise, despite the higher demand.
Today I held one of the last "play tests to apply toward a grade" on my lunch. As we wrapped up all of the participants wanted to know when the next play test was going to be held. I told them they were done for the semester.
They all replied, "Yes, we know. But I want to keep working on this. When is the next one going to be?"
Some of them have completed their undergraduate degrees and are heading off to start a career. Yet they want to come back and continue to tweak, to craft, to play this game, to form what will emerge from the index cards, glass beads, and a set of rules that defines the play space.
Do I have a great area of research or what?
Dude! You posted! Yay.
