I've seen the future... I can't afford it

I received my Alumni discount link for GDC 2008 this week.  When I saw the rate, my jaw almost hit the floor.  Full conference at $1995.  Alumni pay $1395. 

Now I know I've been going to a these for a while now, but I'm pretty sure that my first trip that I paid full price for was in the $1395 region and that subsequent alumni passes for a "gigapass" were around the $995-$1095 range.  Then again, I spoke at the conference for the last two years and my pass was comped, so maybe my pass inflation math is off.

I knew that we had been dodging a bullet for a while with this one.  The temp would rise in our GE Profile Arctica and I would beat it back down by a combo of using the turbo cool along with the chiller drawer.  But I also knew from some online research that the damper between the freezer and the refrigerator on this side by side would get stuck on the closed position.  When the temp was up in the high 70's and the freezer was at -13, I was pretty sure that I had diagnosed the problem.

Too bad the appliance repair service wouldn't accept that I knew what I was talking about.  They sent one of their guys out without the part, preferring to look at it themselves first.  If it needed  repair they would waive the service call fee for this trip.  And given all the other things going on today, I couldn't  spend a lot of time hunting down alternatives, so I acceded to this offer.

Guess what part they needed to get and come back for?  Oh, and they can't come back until Friday...

Gaaaaaauuuuuuggghhhhhhh!
