Dell recommends Windows Vista Home Premium.
I recommend you purchase something other than a Dell. Or better yet, a Macintosh.

So did you guys get that Dell mailer too? I think I saw exactly the same thing you saw, and made a mental note: "Do not, repeat not, buy a Dell." (We are currently in need of a new PC, our old one having somehow developed a fried motherboard during The Move.)

I received that flyer and just cringed. We have had *such* problems with Vista this past semester in our computer labs. I can not imaging using that OS on my laptop. (Teaching game design and programming I was able to successfully hold off Vista since it is unknown how my toolset would interact with the OS.)
I will say this - the security features of Vista were very nice. I needed to install items in to the System32 directory for doing graphics work. Vista threw up a message saying that I did not have permission to add items to that directory.... and then allowed me to copy the files anyway. :-)
